Novel 1 Project
Remember.....no matter which projects you choose, your end product should demonstrate a solid understanding of the novel and have enough content to warrant 60 points.
1. Create a research project based on a topic that is related to the novel that is new to you or interests you. In your introductory paragraph explain how the topic relates to the book. 3-4 pages and a works cited page. Your research could also be presented in a PowerPoint/Google Slides presentation, but please discuss with your teacher first (4-6 slides). 60 points
2. Draw, paint, sculpt or use an online design program to create, in detail, a color map of where a major part of the story takes place. Label the major landmarks or points of interest and use captions to describe the events for each labeled location. (Free online map maker for fantasy worlds: https://inkarnate.com/ ) Points depend on content/time/effort. Discuss with Mrs. Rennau.
3. Create a brochure (Microsoft Publisher has brochure templates) to promote the book. Include a review of the novel wherein you try to get someone else to read it, a summary and a picture. Additional options include an author Bio, feature the book series where applicable, and/or favorite quotes. 30 points
4. Write the next part to the story. Remember, this is a project and your writing should be at least 3-4 pages. 60 points
5. Change the ending to the story. Remember this is a project and your writing should be at least 3-4 pages. 60 points
6. Explain how you would make your book into a movie-- who would play the main characters, where would you film it, what would you want to emphasize? Would you make any changes to the plot? What special effects would you need to create? You must explain your choices. 3-4 pages 60 points
7. Write an article for a newspaper published at the time of a major event in your book. Use the proper format for a newspaper article. 30 points
8. Write an interview with one of the major characters of at least 10 questions. Include the questions and answers. 30 points
9. Write several diary entries made by one of the major characters, double-spaced, 12 pt. standard font (2 pages 30 Points; 4pages 60 Points)
10. Do collage (8 1/2 x 11" up to 9 x 12") of a major theme of your novel and explain in a well-written paragraph what you are depicting in your collage. 30 points
11. Write a poem or series of poems (to equal 30 lines) inspired by your novel (examples). 30 points
12. Find THREE songs that seem to relate to your novel. Provide the lyrics and then write an explanation of how they relate. 30 points

13. Character Box. In a shoe box or small box include 10 objects that would be meaningful to the main character. On a separate piece of paper, in a paragraph, explain why you have chosen each object. 30 points.

15. Choose an important scene in the book, write a script for the scene (3-4 pages) or produce the scene on video. 60 points
16. Create a series of original art in any medium (min 3 pieces) about the novel. Write short essay for each piece of art. Points depend on content/time/effort. Discuss with Mrs. Rennau.
17. Create an attractive, interesting board game that incorporates parts of the novel (characters, setting, theme, plot). Mrs. Rennau will play the game with you as part of the grading of the project. 60 points
18. Do an Internet search specific to you novel to get ideas for a project. Example (The Giver novel study). Email the link to [email protected] for approval. Points depend on content/time/effort. Discuss with Mrs. Rennau.
